Panthers host Beavers in regular season finale

The Concordia High School football team will wrap up the regular season by hosting unbeaten and third-ranked Scott City at 7:00 Friday night.
Following a 16-6 Class 3A District 8 loss to Beloit last week, Concordia is 3-4 overall and 2-2 in district play.
The Panthers have secured a spot in the 3A state playoffs.
Scott City, 7-0 overall, is 4-0 in district play, and has locked up the district championship.
Colby is 3-1 in the district. Beloit is tied with Concordia at 2-2. Goodland is 1-3 and Russell is 0-4.
The top four teams in the district advance to the playoffs.
Scott City defeated Colby 35-12 last week.
That is the the smallest margin of victory for the Beavers this season.
“For us it is about going out and improving on last week, executing our stuff and giving ourselves a chance to win the football game,” Concordia coach Austin Kingsbury said.
Scott City has outscored its opponents 313-31 this season, and posted shutouts in the first three games.
“They are good,” Kingsbury said, “Watching them on film they look like a bunch of clones. They have got a bunch of six foot, 180-pound plus athletes they put on the field. They execute very, very well. So it is a game, when you are playing a quality opponent like that, it makes it way more important to execute well.”
The Beavers will operate out of multiple sets on offense including flexbone, wing-T and wishbone.
“They run a bunch of different looks out of those three formations,” Kingsbury said, “They spread it out. Their best player is number four Wyatt Hayes. He was an all-state player last year, and he is pretty heavily involved.”
Concordia limited Scott City to just 32 yards rushing in a 28-12 home loss last year.
Scott City quarterback Parker Gooden completed 9 of 11 passes for 190 yards and three touchdowns.
Senior tight end Parker Vulgamore had three catches for 88 yards.
Going into a matchup against an unbeaten and ranked team, Kingsbury said the Panthers can look back at the game against Scott City last season.
“Last year is a good example for us. Scott City came in here and was the number one ranked team in the state and we led them for two quarters,” Kingsbury said, “So I think they know the possibility is there if we play well. I think our kids have good fight in them. I think they will get up and they will go out and compete regardless of what they have seen or heard.”
For those teams qualifying, the state playoffs will begin on October 26.
Teams in District 8 will match up against teams from District 7.
The top two teams in each district host first-round games. The third and fourth-place teams are on the road.
The fifth and sixth place teams in each district matchup up against one another in a final regular season game.
