Panthers pound Minneapolis 19-11 to gain split

MINNEAPOLIS — Five players drove in two runs or more as the Concordia Panthers rebounded from a loss in game one to knock off Minneapolis 19-11 in the second game of a doubleheader Friday.
Dyelan Reed had two hits in four at bats, drove in five runs and scored three in the game two victory for the Panthers.
Hunter Schroeder knocked in three runs.
Jacob Williams went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and four runs scored.
Gavin Thomas had two hits and two runs batted in.
Tim Peltier knocked in two runs.
Minneapolis took advantage of 14 walks in picking up an 11-6 win in the first game of the twinbill.
“Whenever you give up 14 walks, the odds are not in your favor to win the game,” Concordia coach Brandt Hutchinson said.
Concordia (12-4) put up three runs in the top of the first inning in game two.
Wyatt Trost walked with one out. Chas Carlgren singled and Reed walked to load the bases.
A ground ball by Hunter Schroeder got the first run home.
Carlgren would steal home.
Chase Parker singled to drive in Schroeder.
Two runs in the bottom of the first inning and two in the third gave Minneapolis a 4-3 advantage.
Concordia scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning to go on top to stay, 8-4.
Williams walked, Trost singled and Carlgren walked.
Reed followed with a two-run single.
Schroeder doubled to drive in Carlgren.
Reed got home on a ground ball by Thomas.
A base hit by Peltier plated Schroeder.
Minneapolis scored one run in the bottom of the fourth, and trailed 8-5.
Four runs in the top of the fifth inning extended the Panthers' lead to 12-5.
Reed walked with the bases loaded to force home a run.
Trost scored on a sacrifice by Schroeder.
Thomas knocked in a run with a single and Reed scored on a sacrifice by Peltier.
Minneapolis closed the gap to 12-10 with five runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Reed and Schroeder drove in runs in the sixth inning to put Concordia on top 14-10.
The Panthers added five runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Williams had a two-run single in the inning and scored on a base hit by Carlgren.
Reed tripled to drive in Carlgren and scored on a passed ball.
“We have been talking a lot about situational hitting and we did a better job of that,” Hutchinson said.
The Lions added one run in the bottom of the seventh.
Carlgren pitched the first three innings for Concordia to get the win. He gave up five runs, four earned, on six hits, struck out four and walked three.
Reed worked three innings and allowed five unearned runs on three hits. He struck out four and walked one.
Trost gave up one run on one hit, struck out three and walked three in two innings.
Carlgren had three hits and scored five runs in the game.
In game one, Minneapolis scored one run in the second inning and five in the second to take a 6-0 lead.
A run in the fifth inning gave the Lions a 7-0 cushion.
Shut out over the first five innings, the Panthers scored five runs in the top of the sixth.
Williams and Carlgren singled.
An error on a ball hit by Thomas allowed Williams to score.
Schroeder singled and Reed drove in two runs.
A single by Parker got two more runs home.
Minneapolis answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning, and led 11-5.
Trost walked and scored on a single by Carlgren in the top of the seventh to make it an 11-6 game.
Thomas pitched two and a third innings in taking the loss. He gave up five runs, four earned, on three hits, struck out one and walked seven.
Williams surrendered four runs, three earned, on four hits, struck out one and walked six in two and two-thirds innings.
Reed worked one inning and gave up two runs, one earned, on one hit. He walked one.
Carlgren and Schroeder had two hits each for Concordia.
Reed and Parker drove in two runs each.
The Panthers are scheduled to play a North Central Kansas League doubleheader at Marysville on Tuesday.
