Red Ravens topple T-Birds

COFFEYVILLE — Playing a third game in five days, the Cloud County Community College Thunderbirds fell 87-63 to Coffeyville Community College in a Jayhawk Conference East Division game Wednesday night.
Cloud County had suffered home losses to Pratt Community College last Saturday night and Butler Community College on Monday.
The T-Birds have now dropped four straight games, and are 8-11 overall and 2-8 in the Jayhawk East.
Coffeyville, picking up a win despite not having head coach Jay Herkelman on the sideline, improved to 14-6 overall and 6-4 in the conference.
Herkelman was suspended for a game after being ejected from a game against Cowley College on Monday.
Cloud County trailed the Red Ravens 37-27 at halftime.
Coffeyville connected on 21 of 34 field goal attempts for 60 percent in outscoring the T-Birds 50-36 to record five wins in six games.
Freshman Michael Ozomah led the way for the T-Birds with a season high 14 points. He was four of six from the field and five of six from the free throw line.
Ozomah was the only Cloud County player to score in double figures.
Jay Lewis and Iyen Enaruna chipped in nine points each.
Sami Sanad came off the bench to score eight points, and Akene Agee added seven points.
Cloud County, which committed 23 turnovers in the game, put up just 52 shots from the field, and made 21 of them for 40 percent.
The T-Birds were 14 of 20 from the free throw line for 70 percent.
Coffeyville scored 29 points off of the Cloud County turnovers.
Manny Crump tossed in 25 points for the Red Ravens. He made 10 of 13 field goal attempts and three of five free throws.
Tony Hutson scored 15 points and Meikkel Murray finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Coffeyville shot 50 percent (34 of 68) from the floor and 54 percent (13 of 24) from the line.
Cloud County will play a fourth game in eight days when it travels to Arkansas City to take on 13th-ranked Cowley College on Saturday night.
Cowley, 17-3 overall, sits atop the Jayhawk East standings at 9-1.
The Tigers average 109 points per game.
