Rundus places eighth at Wamego

WAMEGO — Playing in his first high school golf tournament, Concordia senior Paul Rundus recorded a top 10 finish in the Wamego Invitational Tuesday at Wamego Country Club.
Rundus turned in rounds of 47-41 to post an 88 and place eighth in the tournament.
Concordia, with all four players making their high school debuts, finished in a tie with Abilene for fourth place in the tournament with a total of 383.
“For the first tournament out we were pretty pleased,” Concordia coach Gene Rundus said, “I asked the guys to set some goals, and for the most part we met them. This was the first high school tournament action that any of these guys have ever seen and they were challenged by the hardest course in the league right out the door. They all hit some great shots today, and while we know that there is plenty to work on, this was a decent start. We are looking to build on this performance throughout the year and come back strong when we return to Wamego for our league meet in May.”
Sabetha, the defending Class 3A state champions, won the tournament with a score of 345.
Wamego finished second with a 354 and Tonganoxie was third with a 360.
Freshman Hayden Dvorak had rounds of 47-46 to card a 93 for Concordia.
Treyton Gropp, a freshman, shot 52-47 to finish with a 99.
Freshman Braxton Kindel shot 50-53 for a 103.
Jesse Burger, Sabetha, was the individual medalist with a 77.
