Schroeder goes 5-0, captures first place

SALINA — Winning five consecutive matches, all by fall, Concordia High School senior Hunter Schroeder captured first place in the 182-pound class in the Salina South Invitational wrestling tournament.
Schroeder pinned Ryal Basart, Stockton, in 48 seconds, in his first match of the tournament.
Now 10-0 on the season, Schroeder pinned Savion Fields, Wichita West, in 36 seconds.
Schroeder then pinned Brooks Burgoon, Salina Central, in 50 seconds, Jake Engelbrecht, Andale, in 40 seconds and Kyle Werner, Plainville, in 1:11.
Concordia, competing for just the second time this season and the first time since a tournament in Minneapolis back on December 12, had Sajen Kemling, 113 pounds, and Keyan Miller, 170 pounds, place second.
Koby Tyler, 120 pounds; Daniel Vines, 126 pounds; Caleb Hanson, 152 pounds; and Dalton Owen, 285 pounds, placed third for the Panthers.
Concordia finished seventh as a team with 110 points.
Andale won the team title with 193.5 points. Salina Central was second with 155 and Colby was third with 152.5.
Kemling pinned Ethan Selbe, Plainville, in 1:59, in his opening match. He pinned Pete Herbst, Andale, in 33 seconds and Waylen Eck, Andale, in 23 seconds.
Isaac Phimvongsa, Salina Central, dealt Kemling his first loss of the season, by fall.
Miller (5-3) pinned Leon Castaneda, Wichita Heights, in 2:11 and Julian Castro, Salina Central. He suffered a 5-2 loss to Ben Hansen, Plainville.
Tyler (5-2) fell 4-0 to Owen Heck, Andale, in the first round. He pinned Allen McMurray, Salina Central, and then fell 4-2 to Logan Normandin, Plainville.
Hanson lost by fall to Ian Aouad, Andale. He pinned Zach Young, Stockton, and then lost by fall to Justus Hulse, Stockton.
Owen lost by fall to Jonah Smith, Plainville, and Brycen James, Wichita West. He pinned Garrett McCaskill, Andale, in 58 seconds.
Toby Wahlmeier, 138 pounds, and Jace Tholstrup, 220 pounds, picked up one win each for Concordia.
Cody Trost, 132 pounds; Easton Swihart, 145 pounds; and Zane Reed, 195 pounds, each finished 0-3.
Concordia is scheduled to wrestle a dual against Republic County, at Belleville, on Thursday.
Concordia hosted a junior varsity tournament on Friday, and had five wrestlers finish unbeaten.
Mason Eickmann, 138A; Easton Swihart, 145; Caleb Hanson, 152A; Chayton Alquist, 182; and Reese Reed, 285A, were all 3-0 for the Panthers.
Christian Belden, 113; Connor Novak, 113; Torxsten Kindel, 126; Cody Trost, 132; Bergun Kindel, 138; Jace Tholstrup, 220; and Gunnar Hale, 220A, finished up 2-1.
Braxton Kindel, 132; Dustin Sterrett, 138; Wyatt Franz, 145; and Michael Ashland, 285A, went 1-2.
Megan Barr, 126A, was 0-1.
