T-Birds knock off Hastings JV, 15-6

HASTINGS, Neb. — Putting up 11 runs in the fifth and sixth innings combined, the Cloud County Community College baseball team rallied for a 15-6 victory over the Hastings College junior varsity on Tuesday.
Cloud County trailed 5-2 heading into the fifth inning.
The Thunderbirds pushed across four runs in the fifth and then erupted for seven runs in the sixth to go up 13-5.
Cloud County would add two more runs in the top of the ninth inning in posting the win and improving to 13-3.
“It was good to get some guys in there and continue gaining experience and depth as a team,” Cloud County coach Eric Gilliland said, “We still haven't been able to put together a full day of baseball for awhile, and we started slow tonight which forced us to play from behind.”
Cloud County got out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Hastings scored one run in the second inning, two in the third and two in the fourth to go up 5-2.
The Broncos would manage just one run over the final five innings.
Scoring four runs in the top of the fifth inning, the T-Birds went on top to stay, 6-5.
Cloud County tacked on seven runs in the sixth inning, and led 13-5.
Hastings scored one run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Two runs in the top of the ninth gave the T-Birds the 15-6 advantage.
Cloud County used six pitchers in the game.
Phillip Cude started, and allowed one run on one hit, struck out two and walked two in two innings.
Carl Aikman gave up two unearned runs on two hits in one inning. He struck out one.
Brayden Radcliffe worked two innings to get the win. He gave up two unearned runs on three hits and struck out four.
Jared Stuewe and Javier Cruz pitched one scoreless inning each.
Josh Hain allowed one run on two hits in two innings.
Cloud County banged out 13 hits in the game.
Josh Laukkanen and Jack Correll had two hits and drove in two runs each.
Jose Luna knocked in two runs.
Alex Rice and Noah Olson had two hits each.
Cloud County will host Butler Community College in a Jayhawk Conference West Division doubleheader on Thursday, and then play at Butler on Friday to wrap up the four-game series.
