T-Birds place ninth in Chili Pepper Festival

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — With all six runners turning in personal best times, the Cloud County Community College men's cross country team placed ninth in the Chili Pepper Cross Country Festival hosted by the University of Arkansas on Saturday.
Cloud County finished with 260 points in the meet.
The University of Texas won the meet with 74 points. Colorado School of the Mines was second with 96 and Oklahoma State University was third with 125.
Cloud County was the top two-year institution among the 32 teams. Iowa Central Community College finished 12th with 428 points.
Leading the way for Cloud County was Dais Malebana, who placed 10th in the 8K race with a time of 24:08.90.
Kwanele Mthembu ran 24:51.80 to finish 44th for the Thunderbirds.
Saba Khvichava crossed in 51st place with a time of 24:58.60.
Gabriel Chinya finished 91st in 25:27.50.
Habtamu Geta rounded out the top five for Cloud County by placing 97th in 25:32.20.
Ablel Gebreselase was 147th in 26:01.40.
There were 315 runners competing in the men's race.
Cameron Griffith, running unattached, won the race in 23:35.90.
The Cloud County women had just three runners compete, and did not score as a team.
Ludjenie Mondesir ran 19:59.30 to place 78th for the T-Birds.
Kya Johnson finished 162nd in 21:05.10.
Tanya Harcum placed 198th in 21:43.20.
There were 351 runners in the field.
Cynthia Togom, Central Missouri State University, won the 5K race in 17:28.50.
