T-Birds record dual win over Central Christian

The 25th-ranked Cloud County Community College wrestling team picked up its second dual win of the season by defeating Central Christian College 30-19 Tuesday night in Bryant Gymnasium.
Cloud County is now 2-0 in home duals.
“Tonight felt good for us to get a win as we've been wrestling some extremely tough competition this past weekend, and our guys opened up and competed when given the opportunity,” Cloud County coach Cody Cole said.
Central Christian took a 4-0 lead in the dual with Chris Ray winning an 11-3 major decision over Aiden Connors in the 125-pound class.
Cloud County then went on top when Blake Leiszler pinned Caden Emmot in 2:28 in the 133-pound class.
Joel Ostrom, 141 pounds, put the Thunderbirds up 12-4 by pinning Blake Hall in 2:15.
Nate Normandin was beaten 8-6 in overtime by Central Christian's Jerome Cannon in the 149-pound class.
Central Christian then reclaimed the lead in the dual at 13-12 when Hazen Benton pinned Chandler Schoenberger in the 157-pound class.
Kobryn Mann received a bye at 165 pounds, and Cloud County led 18-13.
Cloud County's Dante Harper lost by fall to Tyler Estep, and it was a 19-18 lead for Central Christian.
The T-Birds would go on top to stay when Micah Sterling, 184 pounds, pinned Mason McCarty in 2:32.
Both teams were open at 197.
Cloud County's Elwin Trejo pinned Jacob Sabus in the 285-pound class.
“Micah Sterling responded well tonight at 184 pounds after some adversity with a takedown early to get a pin and Elwin Trejo at heavyweight to seal the deal for us was big, and it's nice to have him at the back end of our lineup for situations like tonight,” Cole said.
Cloud County hosts 13th-ranked Barton Community College in a Jayhawk Conference West Division dual tonight.
