Thunderbirds split with Bethany JV

Freshman outfielder Kayla Lee hit two home runs and drove in three runs as the Cloud County Community College softball team earned a split in a home doubleheader against the Bethany College junior varsity by posting an 11-3 victory in game two on Tuesday.
Cloud County, now 3-1, suffered a 9-5 loss to Bethany in the opening game of the twinbill.
Bethany took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning in game two.
The Thunderbirds responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning and would not trail again.
Lee, who was 3-for-4 at the plate, tripled and scored the first run on a single by Kara Chisholm.
Cloud County would load the bases, and Chisholm got home on a ground ball by Emily Dunaway. A ground ball by Mikayla Bletscher got Mattison Hogrefe home.
Taylor Burks singled to drive in Jacie Marcotte.
A two-run home run by Marcotte in the second inning gave Cloud County a 6-1 advantage.
Lee hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.
The T-Birds tacked on two more runs in the inning, and led 9-1.
Bethany picked up two runs in the top of the fifth inning to make it 9-3.
An inside the park home run with Kennedy Doherty aboard in the bottom of the fifth inning made it 11-3 and ended the game because of the eight-run rule.
Brynn Riley pitched all five innings to get the win. She gave up three runs on five hits, struck out four and walked three.
Cloud County scored 11 runs on 10 hits.
Hogrefe had two hits and scored three runs.
Chisolm was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Marcotte drove in two runs.
Cloud County got out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning in game one.
Lee would steal home for the first run.
Hogrefe tripled to drive in Chisolm and scored on a ground ball by Marcotte.
Lee doubled and scored on an error in the second inning to give the T-Birds a 4-0 advantage.
Bethany tied the game with four runs in the top of the third inning.
Marcotte singled to drive in Lee in the bottom of the fourth inning, and Cloud County had the lead back at 5-4.
The T-Birds were shut out over the final three innings.
Bethany put up five runs in the top of the sixth inning to go up 9-5.
Hogrefe pitched six and a third innings in taking the loss. She allowed nine runs, six earned, on seven hits, struck out seven and walked seven.
Riley worked two-thirds of an inning.
Lee had three hits in four at bats and scored three runs.
Marcotte drove in two runs and Wells, Dunaway and Sarah Mccown had two hits each.
