Wahlmeier places second in 400 at state
WICHITA — Weathering the storms that halted and delayed the running of the Class 3A State Track and Field Championships, Concordia High School senior Emma Wahlmeier returned to the podium in the girls' 400-meter dash.
Wahlmeier and Concordia's 4x100 relay team were scheduled to run in the preliminaries of the state meet at Cessna Stadium on Friday.
The meet was halted because of thunderstorms, and postponed until Saturday.
All of the running events were timed finals, there were no preliminaries.
Turning in a season-best time of 59.76, Wahlmeier placed second in the 400-meter dash.
Matti Price, Riverton, won the 3A girls' 400 dash in 56.745.
Wahlmeier, a four-time state qualifier and seven-time state medalist, placed third in the 400 at the 4A state meet as a freshman and second as a sophomore.
Last year Wahlmeier was a member of Concordia's 4x100 relay team that placed third at state.
Wahlmeier teamed with senior Katlynn Miller and sophomores Zoe Bechard and Sierra Gropp on a 4x100 relay team that qualified for state this year.
