Church Message

What are you looking at?

Posted

Hebrews 12:1-2

Have you are noticed that you drive where you are looking? True story… years ago there was a man in our church who was a State Trooper. He shared stories with me of how people who were drinking would see his vehicle parked on the side of the interstate and they would get so focused on his car that they would slam right into him! He was eventually forced to retire because of drunks running into him.

I have noticed the same principle in our Christian lives. We can get so wrapped up in looking at the wrong things. One of the biggest things we get focused on is our past. Whether it is past good works we have done or past failures, both are in the past. Can you imagine driving to Salina and only looking through the rear view mirror and never looking forward? You would be all over the place and eventually you would crash.

Open your Bible to Hebrews 12:1-2. There is a wonderful truth in verse 2! It says, “looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith.” If you are struggling in your walk with the Lord, it could be you have gotten your eyes off of Christ! This can happen without realizing it. This world and its problems, suffering, or even entertainment can all be very distracting!

In Philippians 3:12-14, Paul shares what he did to stay in the right direction for his life. Paul was looking daily to Jesus for his salvation, for his strength, and for Jesus to be his example of how to live life daily for his Lord. Paul could have easily focused on his past and crashed and burned, but he didn’t. He looked forward and finished his life well and pleasing for his Savior.

So, if you are struggling today, distracted with the things around you, too focused on the past, whatever it is, get your eyes back on Jesus. Let Him lead you forward and watch what HE can do with your life!
