One of the titles for Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace. True disciples and followers of Christ will try to be peacemakers, and follow His example. Contention prevents the spirit of the Lord from being with us.
The Lord taught “love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them who despitefully use you and persecute you”
He also said “blessed are all the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.”
Russell M. Nelson, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has said the current hostility in public dialogue and on social media is alarming. Hateful words are deadly weapons. He taught “Anger never persuades. Hostility builds no one. Contention never leads to inspired solutions.”
We don’t know the day or the hour of the Lord’s second coming, but the Lord has prompted His prophet to urge us to get ready for that “great and dreadful day.” One of the things that will help us prepare is to have more charity towards all people.
Let us all do better in trying to be like Jesus, so we will be more prepared when he comes again.
