The Cloud County Commission held its regular meeting at 9 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, at the Cloud County Courthouse, and initially began with a light agenda, but eventually included multiple county staff and a few guests.
Cloud County commissioners Ron Copple, Dannie Kearn and chairman Mike Cleveland attended the meeting, alongside county clerk Shella Thoman. Also included in the meeting later were county appraiser Kim Winsett, CloudCorp Executive Director Tim Beims, businessman Sean Jenkins, county resident Ryan McMillan and Kansas Association of Counties Deputy Director and General Counsel Jay Hall electronically.
Commissioners’ first appointment of the day was Cloud County Highway and Weed Administrator Rod Michaud’s regular report, where he told commissioners that his team, with the help of Republic County, completed the 10 miles of blacktop sealing road work last week.
After Michaud’s report, a conversation about Trail and 110th Roads began with McMillan, a few county staff and Hall. Commissioners discussed a few topics relating to McMillan’s property, alongside further discussing Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) regulations.
Once commissioners concluded the discussion relating to Trail Road, they moved on to chat with Beims and Jenkins, mostly in executive session, to discuss a possible business in the county.
For routine business, commissioners approved two tax abatements and resolution 2025-18 to approve the appointment of Ana Leon to the 12th Judicial Community Corrections and Juvenile Services Advisory Board. Commissioners also nominated Kearn to fill an upcoming vacancy on the Kansas County Association Multiline Pool (KCAMP) Board of Trustees.
The commission concluded its meeting at 11:48 a.m. and will host the next regular meeting at 9 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 14, at the Cloud County Courthouse in Concordia.
