The Concordia Unified School District 333 Board of Education met for a special board meeting on Friday, April 4 at 2 p.m., to discuss the recent announcement that superintendent Quentin Breese will end his time in Concordia.
On Sunday, Smoky Valley USD 400 announced on its Facebook page that its board of trustees approved the hiring of Concordia Superintendent Quentin Breese.
Breese will begin his new position as superintendent on July 1, 2025.
President Brad Berk, Vice-president Mike Cleveland, and members, John Culley, Amber Lambertz, Jenny Parker and Lindsay Metcalf were present.
Member Nancy Owen was absent.
Primarily, the purpose of this meeting was to discuss where and how best to advertise to fill this position.
Much discussion was held about whether a “wider pool of candidates” could be gathered by a private firm or through a larger public firm like the Kansas Association of School Boards.
The new superintendent or an interim superintendent must be in place by July 1, 2025.
Board members discussed the importance of hiring a superintendent once and doing it the right way.
Members of the board also asked staff members present to think about/discuss what they’d like to see in a new superintendent and what things would be helpful or valued in new candidates.
A motion was made and approved to contract thru KASB to list this job and receive the help that such a contract would provide. This motion was approved.
This job listing is currently on the district’s Facebook page.
The next meeting is April 14, 2025, at 6 p.m. at the school board office.
These meetings are open to the public.
