100 YEARS—OCTOBER 15, 1925

Miltonvale Rural High School won over the Haddam High School, in the second game of the year. The score was our local team 57 and Haddam 0… There are 20 girls enrolled to come out for basketball this year… From the Manning news. W.J. Myer and brother P.E. Myer, of Chanute, Kan., recently called on L. M. Domino…  A rain followed by a freeze called for heaters and furnaces to be started…  From the Oakhill news. All of the radio fans in town have been taking in the baseball games between Washington and Pittsburg… MARRIAGES: Mr. Wm Gillis was united in marriage to Miss Lucile Pinkerton.

 

75 YEARS—OCTOBER 5, 1950

The Pirates and the Delphos Maroons tied in the football game 6-6. Catlin ran for 30 years and was run out of bounds on the two-yard line, but on the next play Baldock ran over center for the only score for the Pirates… At the Mighty Oaks 4-H club meeting, Jimmy Carver was elected recreation leader… Dick Epperson purchased the barber shop located in the Burroughs building from Cecil Gibson… MARRIAGES: Lila Kaiser to Mr. Loren D. Haynes…   BIRTHS: Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Schweiser of Savannah, Mo. Have a boy. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Meyer have a boy. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Coleman have a boy. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Quinn of St. George have a girl. Mr. and Mrs. Elmo McNee of Clay Center have a girl… Wheat $1.97… BIRTHDAYS: Mrs. J.V. Downey, Mrs. Melvin Tate, Mrs. Sterrett, Mrs. Howard Cyr. Mrs. Louis Lister and Darlene Shea… Dutton-Ennis has sweet potatoes, 2 lbs. for 15 cents. Sikes Store Co. has sweet potatoes $1.50 a bushel…

 

50 YEARS—OCTOBER 9, 1975

The Pirates traveled to Beloit to play the St. John’s Blue Jays, lost 0 to 27… The Junior Pirates lost to Mankato, 14-8…  BIRTHS: Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Girard have a boy… Marion McKain did her cross-country flight last week, with stops at Lincoln and Ellsworth. Now for some night flying… The US Postal Service's first-class mail service improvement program will go into effect on October 11, according to Postmaster Irma Breen. Under the program, first-class mail will receive service that is equal to or better than airmail… Moisture for the week .00…

25 YEARS—OCTOBER 12, 2000

Dona Schultz presented Duane and Kathy Warkentin with a certificate worth $100 for advertising their business, Warkentin Cabinets, in the Miltonvale Record. The Warkentin Cabinet Shop built the cabinets at the city building to store the flags in… ANNIVERSARIES: Mr. and Mrs. Victor Melton, 70th. They live in Eugene. Ore.…  Editor reports wintry-like temperatures have visited us again, with a little moisture coming with the cold front. We are still behind on the moisture, so keep praying…  Wheat $2.88, Milo $2.95, Corn $1.66, Soybeans $4.47 and Oats $1.05… Moisture for the week: .64…  Teens for Christ 25th anniversary rally.
