Maklen Brown Wins Photography Award
Maklen Brown, an eighth grader at the Concordia Jr/Sr High School, won the Youth Division of the 20th Annual Rural Kansas Photo Contest of 2025, with a photograph he titled 'Electric Evening'.
Maklen's stunning photograph captured a brilliant red and orange Cloud County sunset at the precise moment of a lightening strike.
"I was just trying to get a photo of the sunset, and there just happened to be lightening at the same time, and I knew I got it," Maklen said. "When I saw the photograph, I just thought, Oh my gosh, I got it!. It was very cool."
Using his Canon R7 camera, Brown took the photograph in the backyard of his house in Concordia, on the west side of town on July 21 at about 8pm.
998 photographs were submitted to the contest in 6 divisions.
