PWO Camp Concordia Preservation Society meeting recap

The POW Camp Concordia Preservation Society held its monthly meeting on July 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the Cloud County Historical Museum Annex. There were nine members in attendance.

The minutes were made available and were accepted as written. Susie Haver gave the treasurer’s report, which was accepted. Barbara Shunn gave the visitor’s report for June – The guard tower had 93 visitors from Kansas and 13 other states, plus New Zealand, Canada and Taiwan; the museum had  101 visitors from Kansas and 10 other states, plus Taiwan, New Zealand and Canada.

Old Business

  • No progress on finding a contractor to repair the roof.
  • T 64: Randy Schultz gave a report on what needs to be done to include siding, windows, doors, drywall and wiring. Solar power was discussed. Lowell May made a motion to proceed with the repairs, seconded by Marlene Miller, and passed.
  • 80th anniversary of the closing of Camp Concordia: The Cook Series will sponsor Tom Nelson (producer of “Prisoners of Plenty”) as the keynote speaker. It will take place on November 8, 2025, and will be followed by a panel consisting of Lowell May, Tom Nelson and Jack Meister.
  • Payment for cutting the grass was discussed and decided upon.

There was no new business.

The next meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. on August 11 at the Cloud County Historical Annex. All members and interested persons are invited to attend.
