Ralph Warren Lewis

Posted

1932 – 2026

Ralph Warren Lewis, 93, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 14, 2026, in Topsham, Maine.

Born in Concordia, Kansas, to Arthur and Sylvia Lewis, he loved growing up in Concordia. In high school, he was a class officer, Eagle Scout with a Gold Palm and school photographer.

Ralph loved music, singing bass in barbershop quartets and church choirs throughout his life. He also had a lifelong passion for photography.

In 1952, Ralph married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Scovell. They shared 67 years together until her passing in 2019.

Ralph joined the U.S. Navy in 1953, as a Naval Photographer. During his remarkable 27-year career, he rose from E-3 to Chief Petty Officer and ultimately retired as a Lieutenant Commander. His service took him around the world, including Operation Deep Freeze in Antarctica.

After retiring, Ralph remained active with the National Association of Naval Photographers and began a second career with Apple computers, eventually founding Mac-Care.

Ralph also loved mystery novels, woodworking, traveling, his church, his shipmates, and a good sea story.

He is survived by his sister, Evelyn Springstead; children Kathy Smith, Lynn Koenig (Dave), Bryan Lewis (Tess) and Ken Lewis (Reba); and many nieces and nephews.

Ralph loved his family, his faith, and life. His family takes comfort knowing he and Shirley are together again.

Fair winds and following seas, Ralph. We’ve got the watch.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bath United Methodist Church, 340 Oak Grove Avenue, Bath, ME 04530.
