Richard Dale “Rick” Peterson, 69, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2025, in Anchorage, AK. He was born October 20, 1955, in Lubbock, TX, to Richard and Joyce (Shoemaker) Peterson. Rick graduated from Concordia High School, Concordia, KS, in 1974. He was united in marriage to Colleen Cunningham on September 3, 1979. Together they had one daughter, Hannah.
Rick always dreamed of living in Alaska so in 1981, along with his wife, he moved to Anchorage where he remained until his death. He loved the wilderness and adventures that Alaska had to offer, spending many weekends hiking and camping in various weather conditions. Alongside his brother, in 1986 he reached the summit of Mt. McKinley. Another lifelong passion of his was motorcycles, having participated in numerous motocross races as a teenager and later teaching multiple motorcycle safety classes. He was a proud dad, who helped coach his daughter and her Nunaka Valley softball team to victory as the Junior Softball League World Series Champions of 2012.
Rick leaves behind his daughter, Hannah Peterson of Chicago, IL; her mother, Colleen; parents, Richard and Joyce Peterson of Concordia, KS; brother, David (Barbara) Peterson of Sapulpa, OK; and sister, Judi (JB) Covington of Phillipsburg, KS, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who will always remember his wonderful smile, contagious laugh and adventurous spirit.
A private celebration of life gathering for Rick will be held at a later date.
