Sisters of St. Joseph Invite You to “Change The Narrative”

Posted

The Sisters of St. Joseph of Concordia, Kansas, offer the opportunity for the public to become informed about what’s happening on the southern border of the U.S., when they host an informative immigration presentation entitled “Changing the Narrative.”

Four knowledgeable speakers will present non-political, educational facts about immigration on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the Nazareth Motherhouse auditorium.

The day will begin at 10 a.m. with a Zoom presentation from Melissa del Bosque, a journalist for The Border Chronicle. Melissa has written about the U.S.-Mexico border since 1998 for various media outlets, including ProPublica, The Intercept, The Guardian, The Texas Observer, and Harper’s.

The next presenter of the day is Dylan Corbett. Dylan is the founding executive director of the Hope Border Institute and has over fifteen years of experience working in international and human development globally and in the borderlands. Dylan will present on what is currently happening at the border via Zoom.

A catered meal from Concordia’s own El Puerto Mexican Restaurant will be served before the afternoon speakers join us in person. Sisters Eileen McKenzie, FSPA, and Gemma Doll, OP, join us for the afternoon session. It will be an interactive session that includes storytelling and best practices, with a special emphasis on detention and criminalization. Sister Eileen is the Mobilization Specialist at Kino Border Initiative in Nogales, Arizona.

“At Kino, I am accompanied by people who leave behind all they know with the hope of finding what they need. At Kino, I work with people who are dedicated to radical hospitality and advocacy. At Kino, I am part of a thriving mission that is meaningful and challenging. At Kino, I live my faith,” said Sr. Eileen McKenzie, FSPA.

Sr. Gemma Doll, OP, is the Justice Promoter of the Dominican Sisters of Peace in Ohio, and representative of the Catholic Sisters Walking with Migrants program and brings personal, hands-on experience assisting families who were being deported from the U.S. back into Mexican Society.

There will be time allowed for group discussion and questions and answers with each presenter.

The program will close at 4 p.m. An RSVP and a fee of $35, which includes lunch, is required by Friday, September 5. Contact Anna Marie Broxterman to reserve your spot or have any questions, contact her at 785-243-2113 ext.1209.
