Nevaeh Valcoure has been named the Concordia Junior/Senior High School (CJSHS) Student of the Month for March.
The daughter of Lisa and Bill Valcoure, Nevaeh carries a 3.8 GPA at CJSHS and is a member of the National Honor Society. She also participates in softball, powerlifting, student council, and trap shooting.
How good of a shot is she? "I average 23 out of 25," Nevaeh said. "I went to state last year, and I'm going again this year. I started in eighth grade, so this is my fifth season."
Nevaeh is also a Career and Technical Education (CTE) ambassador and a member of the First United Methodist Youth Group. In her spare time, she enjoys farming, showing livestock, hunting, spending time with friends and family, rodeo, and shopping.
Is she a savvy shopper? "I'm really good," she said, but then paused and added with a laugh, "Well, maybe not really. I always go for the expensive stuff, so maybe I'm not that good."
Nevaeh has been involved with powerlifting since her sophomore year. "I can hang clean 185 (pounds) and squat 245," she said. "I did almost every sport in junior high, but in high school I just stuck to the ones that I enjoyed the most. My favorite sport is softball - I have been playing since I was in elementary school. I may not be the top athlete, however, when I am out there I am giving my all, enjoy cheering on the team, and love staying active."
Nevaeh enjoys being outdoors and working on a farm. "I've been helping Loren Swenson and Wayne Jeardoe since I was 11 years old," she said. "I also work at the Cloud County Co-op Terminal. And I help Mark Foley with his cattle. I also work with the Atwells and drove a swather. I wanted a job when I was young, and in a rural community, there are farmers who need help. Being a part of FFA really sparked me."
Nevaeh truly enjoys working with, and being around, animals. "I like working with cattle a lot. And I love to ride horses."
Nevaeh entered her first rodeo last year, as a barrel racer. "It was fun," she said. "I learned a lot."
Nevaeh has won two Round Robins for showmanship at the Cloud County Fair, showing a variety of livestock including goats, pigs, and sheep.
After she graduates from high school, Nevaeh plans to attend Cloud County Community College to earn her associate degree in science. She then intends to go to Fort Hays State University and study agricultural business.
When she looks to the future, she sees herself right here in the Cloud County area. "Hopefully I'll meet a guy who has a farm that I can help on. I'd like to travel to rodeos and spend the summers at the lake. I really like the animals, so maybe I'll have a job working on the nutrition side of things for animals, or even keep working at the Co-op."
Nevaeh wanted to thank her parents, teachers, close friends and family, and all her bosses and coworkers. "I'm so grateful for a lot of people," she said.
Congratulations to Nevaeh Valcoure, the CJSHS Student of the Month for March.
