CHS places second at Clay Center
CLAY CENTER — Three players recorded top 10 finishes as the Concordia High School golf team placed second in the Clay Center Invitational on Monday at Clay Center Country Club.
Luke Donovan shot a 74 and finished in a four-way tie for second with Spencer Hecht, Cash Foltz and Regan Kueker of Wamego. He placed fourth based on the tiebreaker.
Karson Lister shot a 77 to finish seventh for the Panthers.
Lewis VanMeter carded an 80 and placed ninth.
Concordia posted its best team score of the season with a 316 on the course on which they will play the Class 4A regional tournament.
Wamego, the defending Class 4A champion, won the tournament with a 293.
Clay Center was second with a 326.
“We probably need to be 10 or more strokes better for regionals, but I thought this was a good team and we learned a lot,” Concordia coach Gene Rundus said.
Andrew Henderson rounded out the top four for Concordia with an 85.
Parker Teel shot an 85 for the Panthers and Lennon Ninemire finished with a 90.
“The guys played well today,” Rundus said. “Luke had a little trouble on the par threes but otherwise was stellar. Karson and Lewis had strong finishes and I was pleased to see them join Luke in the top 10. Andrew Henderson had a great day and notched our final score for the four-man.”
Wamego had its top four players finish in the top five individually, led by medalist Talon White with a 71.
