Panthers thump Lions twice

It took the Concordia High School Panthers just eight innings to rack up 27 runs on its way to sweeping a baseball doubleheader from the Minneapolis Lions last Friday at the Concordia Sports Complex.

Sending 15 batters to the plate, Concordia erupted for 12 runs in the bottom of the third inning and pulled away to a 16-1 victory over Minneapolis in game one.

The Panthers downed the Lions 11-1 in five innings in game two.

Concordia halted a five-game losing skid with the wins.

Chane Parker tripled home Maddox Frey and scored a run on an error to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead on Minneapolis in the first game of the twinbill.

Concordia made it 4-0 with two runs in the second inning.

Dustin Sterrett led off with a single. He stole second, went to third on a passed ball and scored on a passed ball.

Keegun Beims walked, advanced to third on a pair of passed balls and scored on a ground ball by Frey.

Minneapolis closed the gap to 4-1 with a run in the top of the third inning.

Concordia then blew the game open with 12 runs on six hits, three errors and three hit batters.

Beims had a single and a double, drove in three runs and scored two in the inning.

Drew Sterrett doubled, reached on an error and knocked in three runs.

Braeden Primeaux had two runs batted in and scored twice.

Dustin Sterrett and Caleb Hanson each singled and scored two runs in the inning.

The game ended in the bottom of the third inning because of the run rule.

Frey pitched three hitless innings to get the win. He gave up one unearned run, struck out four and walked three.

Beims and Dustin Sterrett each had two hits and scored three runs.

Scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning, the Panthers would not trail in game two.

Payton Breese led off with a single.

A ground ball by Hanson got Breese home.

Joey Henderson walked and scored on a single by Beims in the second inning, and the Panthers led 2-0.

Concordia made it 5-0 with three runs in the third inning.

With Primeaux reaching base on an error, Hanson drawing a walk and Henderson getting hit by a pitch, Concordia loaded the bases.

A double by Beims drove in three runs. He was 2-for-2 with four runs batted in.

Minneapolis scored its only run in the top of the fourth inning.

Concordia answered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it an 8-1 game.

Frey walked and scored on an error on a ball hit by Parker.

Primeaux doubled in a run and scored on a double by Henderson.

The Panthers tacked on three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game because of the 10-run rule.

Drake Blochlinger got things started with a double. He would get home on a fly ball by Boone Richard.

Camron Wurtz was hit by a pitch and Baylor Knox singled.

A base hit by Kale Schroeder plated Wurtz.

Henderson followed with a single that drove in Knox to end the game.

Parker pitched the first four innings to get the win. He gave up one run on just one hit, struck out 10 and walked one.

Hanson worked one scoreless inning. He struck out one and walked one.

Henderson had two hits and drove in two runs.

Concordia dropped both ends of a North Central Kansas League doubleheader to Abilene on April 23.

Abilene scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a 5-4 victory in game one.

Stocton Timbrook pitched a one-hitter as Abilene shut out the Panthers 13-0 in five innings in game two.

Concordia fell behind 2-0 in the first game of the twinbill.

The Panthers tied the game with two runs in the top of the third inning.

Hanson started things off with a single and Beims was hit by a pitch.

Drew Sterrett walked to load the bases.

A single by Frey got Hanson home.

Primeaux walked with the bases loaded to force home a run.

Abilene reclaimed the lead at 4-2 with two runs in the sixth inning.

Concordia put up two runs in the top of the seventh inning to again pull even.

Drew Sterrett singled with one out.

Frey walked with two out.

A two-out single got Sterrett and Frey home.

The Cowboys then scored the winning run on two hits and a walk in the bottom of the seventh inning to capture the win.

Primeaux gave up four runs on seven hits and walked six in suffering the loss.

Drew Sterrett had three hits in three at bats for Concordia.

Abilene sent 16 batters to the plate and rang up 11 runs on five hits, four walks and three errors in the bottom of the first inning in game two.

The Cowboys added single runs in the third and fourth innings.

Timbrook allowed just a first inning single by Parker over five innings. He struck out 12 and walked one.

Parker surrendered 10 runs, eight earned, on four hits and walked four in a third of an inning in taking the loss.

Breese, Frey and Hanson pitched in relief.
