Solid pitching propels CHS to pair of wins over Lions

Senior Erinae Flesher and freshman Jaylin Roush turned in solid pitching performances to lead the Concordia High School softball team to a doubleheader sweep of Minneapolis last Friday at the Concordia Sports Complex.

Flesher tossed a two-hitter in Concordia’s 4-1 victory in game one. She gave up one unearned runs, struck out seven and walked four.

The Panthers defeated the Lions 3-1 in game two behind a four-hitter by Roush. She allowed one run and struck out eight.

Concordia grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the first game.

Flesher led off Wirth a single. She stole second, moved to third on wild pitch and then stole home.

Minneapolis tied the game with a run in the top of the third inning.

The Panthers answered with two runs in the bottom of the third to go on top to stay, 3-1.

Kinsleigh Bethune walked with two out and Kenlee Williams reached base on a fielder’s choice.

Bethune stole second, third and home.

Williams stole second and third and score on a single by Emalee Johnson.

A run in the fifth inning gave Concordia a 4-1 cushion.

Flesher singled, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and got home on a wild pitch. She had two of the Panthers’ three hits in the game.

Concordia was limited to just one hit by Braedee Weatherman in the second game of the twinbill, but manufactured three runs.

Bethune walked with one out in the bottom of the first inning. She stole second.

Johnson doubled two drive in Bethune.

The Panthers added two run in the third inning and led 3-0.

Flesher reached base on an error. She went to second on a passed ball, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on an error by the catcher.

Bethune walked and stole second and third.

A ground ball by Johnson got Bethune home.

Roush shut Minneapolis out over the first five innings.

The Lions put up one run on two hits in the sixth inning, and trailed 3-1.

Roush retired Minneapolis in order in the seventh inning.

Johnson drove in two runs for Concordia.

On the road for a North Central Kansas League doubleheader, Concordia dropped two games to Abilene on April 23.

The Panthers fell 5-1 to Abilene in the first game.

Abilene shut out Concordia 5-0 in the second game.

The Panthers fell behind 2-0 in the first inning of the first game.

Two runs in the fifth inning gave the Cowgirls a 4-0 advantage.

Williams tripled and scored on a fly ball by Roush in the top of the sixth inning, and Concordia trailed, 4-1.

Abilene added a run in the bottom of the sixth.

Flesher took the loss. She surrendered five runs, two earned, on seven hits, struck out three and walked one. She also had two of Concordia’s five hits.

Williams also had two hits.

The Panthers were shut out on three hits in the second game.

Abilene put up one run in the first inning and four in the second.

Roush allowed five runs, one earned, on five hits, struck out one and walked two in suffering the loss.

Flesher had two hits.
