Acree selected as CHS Student of the Month

Standout athlete and honor student Hanna Acree is the Concordia High School Student of the Month for December.

The daughter of Aaron and Jenny Acree, she has participated in volleyball, basketball, softball, student council, Friends of Rachel, National Honor Society, yearbook, Panther 2 Panther tutoring, and is a CTE student ambassador. In her spare time, Acree enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, photography, stained glass, Midwest Power softball, and Category 5 softball.

Without a doubt, her favorite sport is softball. “With my dad being a coach, I've always been around the game,” Acree said. “As a pitcher, I really love the mental battle, going against each batter. It can get pretty intense.”

Carrying a 3.92 grade point average into her senior year, Hanna plans to attend Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCK) on an athletic scholarship to play softball. While at KCK, she intends to complete the physical therapy assistant program. “I like being able to help people. I've done job-shadowing at the medical center and really enjoyed it.”

With the move to Kansas City, Acree will be away from home for the first time. “I'm a little nervous, but I'm also ready for that next step in life,” she said. “I'm looking forward to living on my own and figuring out who I am as a person. Being on the softball team will help a lot, because that means I'll already be a part of a big family. But hopefully I'll meet people in my classes that I have common interests with. I'm really looking forward to it.”

Acree hopes that she eventually gets an offer to play softball at a four-year college, but she's ready for whatever new path lies ahead. “I'm going to complete my physical therapy program at college and be ready to go into the work force if I don't get an offer. So we'll see what happens.”

After her college career is over, Acree wants to eventually return to Concordia. “I'd like to come back here someday and raise my own family. I really like Concordia.”

Acree wanted to thank her coaches, mentors, peers – and especially her parents - for all their support over the years. “I'm so grateful to everyone who supported me. I wouldn't be who I am in life without them.”
