Carlgren is November Student of the Month

Cav Carlgren is a busy young man.
The son of Jay and Ashley Carlgren, the senior at Concordia High School (CHS) participates in football, basketball, track, the Baptist Youth Group, and CYO The Deep.
Carlgren is the quarterback for the 8-2 Panther football team, who have advanced to the third round of the state playoffs. Their opponent this Friday: the undefeated and defending state champion Andale Indians, who haven't lost a football game in almost three years. This season Andale has outscored their opponents 550-38.
"It's going to be a tough game, but we're looking forward to it," Carlgren said. He makes no bones about the fact that, even as the quarterback, he likes to run the ball. "I like to run, a lot. I'm not afraid to get hit."
Carlgren has helped guide the Panther football team to their best record in years, but at 6' 2" tall, his favorite sport is basketball. "It's been a part of my life ever since I can remember."
His older brother, Chas, was also a standout athlete for the Panthers. So Cav was asked the expected question: who is the better basketball player, him or his brother?
Carlgren hesitated for a moment, and then smiled and said, "Probably me. I'm quicker than him on the court." Can he take his brother in a game of one-on-one? "Definitely," he said, and then, as most younger brothers do when talking about an older brother, quickly reconsidered, "Maybe not every time."
Aside from year-round athletics, Carlgren lives on a farm which means there's always work to do, so he doesn't have a lot of spare time. When he can take it easy for awhile he likes to hang out with friends, drive around, and play the piano.
"It's just a hobby I do," he said of his piano skills. "I'm pretty average. Mostly classical pieces. A little bit of everything."
Carlgren hasn't settled on a college yet and is hoping he'll receive offers to play athletics. Either way, his path in life seems set. "I want to major in Agriculture, so I'll probably go to a D-II (Division Two) school somewhere. After that, I'm going to be a farmer. I grew up with it. I've done it all my life, and I enjoy doing it."
When Carlgren looks to the future, he also sees coaching as an important part of his life. "I'd like to return to Concordia, have a place on the farm, and coach basketball and football at the school."
Congratulations to Cav Carlgren, CHS Student of the Month for November.
