CCCC board approves bid for dorm work

A bid from Budreau Construction, Inc. to renovate two of the campus housing apartments was approved by the Cloud County Community College board of trustees during its regular meeting on Tuesday.
The trustees voted unanimously to accept the bid of $482,793, and to include a 15 percent contingency, for a total amount of $555,211.95, to renovate buildings 12 and 13 at T-Bird Village and to authorize payment from campus housing fund 85.
Information presented to the board from vice president of administrative services Caesar Wood stated that buildings 12 and 13 are the only two that remain in need of upgrades and renovations.
Wood informed the board that there were no renovations done in 2022.
The bid proposals included drywall replacement, bedroom closets, kitchen cabinets and countertops, vinyl flooring, ceiling repairs, showers, paint, replacement windows, PTAC units and heaters, plumbing and electrical and IT infrastructure.
Two bids for the project were opened on April 19 and Budreau Construction was the low bidder.
The estimated completion date for the project is July 31.
In other action taken during the meeting, the board approved a purchase of 85 desktop computers and 100 monitors from Dell in the amount of $70,027.45 and to authorize payment from tech fees.
It was reported to the board that the college intends to purchase desktop computers to replace end-of-life equipment in the student labs and faculty/staff workstations. It is part of a five-year replacement cycle.
The computers and monitors will be purchased using the state contract through the Dell Midwestern Higher Education Compact master agreement. The use of the state contracts or other purchasing cooperative networks allows the college to purchase products from vendors that have already undergone a competitive bid process.
Included in the consent items approved by the board during the meeting was the renewal of contracts for full-time faculty for the 2023-2024 year.
Also approved was the hiring of Bailey Rock as a full-time admissions counselor, effective June 1, and Julia Burr-Roveti as an English, speech and theater instructor, effective August 11.
Rock, who is from Abilene, is a sophomore at Cloud County Community College majoring in business administration. She serves as a Student Ambassador.
Gracie Rudolph, who was an admissions counselor, was appointed to the position of coordinator of fundraising and alumni relations in the Cloud County Community College Foundation Office.
Burr-Roveti is currently an adjunct English professor at Chesapeake College in Maryland.
During the meeting, the board scheduled the evaluation of president Amber Knoettgen for May 18 at 2 p.m. and the board retreat and budget study session for June 7 at 9 a.m.
Richard Hubert and Mark Matthew were chosen to serve on the board of trustees award committee.
The board met in two executive sessions during the meeting, one for 10 minutes with Knoettgen, Wood, vice president for academic affairs Kim Zant, human resources director Chris Wilson and college attorney Justin Ferrell for the purpose of negotiations and one for 20 minutes with the same staff members for the purpose of discussing non-elected personnel. No action was taken.
