CCCC board approves contract for student app

A contract with Ready Education Inc. for the student app software was approved by the Cloud County Community College board of trustees during its regular meeting on Tuesday.
The board, meeting via Zoom, approved the contract renewal with Ready Education Inc., formerly OOHLALA Mobile Inc., in the amount of $16,830 to be paid for tech fees for fiscal years 2021, 2022 and 2023.
The college has used the student app software since January of 2018.
Ready Education Inc. is a company that provides branded mobile apps exclusively to educational institutions. The app has gathered all of Cloud County's student services and systems into a centralized experience that meets the student's need on their mobile phone. It has allowed the college to communicate with students in a specific, targeted way with the goal of increasing student engagement.
Also during the meeting, the board approved waiving policies C7 and E4 to allow the consumption of alcoholic beverages in Bryant Gymnasium from 24 hours before to 24 hours after the Foundation Scholarship Auction, which is scheduled for April 24.
The motion that was passed also allows the consumption of alcohol in Bryant Gymnasium on a rescheduled date in 2021, in the case the auction may need to be postponed because of COVID-19 related issues.
The Foundation had to cancel its auction last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
College president Amber Knoettgen informed the board that the Foundation has not yet made an official decision on this year's auction.
“We didn't feel like it was pertinent to cancel just yet, so we are going to put it off 30 days,” Knoettgen said. “Something that is going to weigh into that decision is going to be the February 1 meeting with the presidents to vote on whether or not we will have fans beyond February 4. Certainly if we don't allow fans at our athletic events we are not going to want to invite everyone to an auction.”
The presidents of the schools in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference had previously voted to not allow fans at athletic events through February 4.
The board also approved a resolution adopting the Kansas Homeland Security Region F Hazard Mitigation Plan for Cloud County along with other participating jurisdictions.
The 2019-2020 college audit completed by Jarred, Gilmore and Phillips, P.A was approved by the board.
Neil Phillips presented the audit to the board during the December 15 meeting.
During the meeting the board observed a moment of silence in honor of Dr. Dan Gerber, a former administrator at the college and member of the board of trustees, who passed away on Monday.
Gerber worked for 14 years at the college and served two terms on the board.
