CCCC board approves resolution

A resolution authorizing Cloud County Community College to enter into a lease purchase transaction with Security Bank, Kansas City, Kan., the proceeds of which will be used to pay certain improvements for the new Technical Education and Innovation Center, was approved by the board of trustees during a special meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
Following a 15-minute executive session for the purpose of confidential financial information pertaining to a business or vendor, that also included college president Amber Knoettgen, vice president for academic affairs Kim Zant, vice president for administrative services Caesar Wood, director of human resources Chris Wilson, college attorney Justin Ferrell, Larry Kleeman and Kevin Cowan, the board of trustees, by a roll call vote of 5-0, approved the resolution.
Also approved during the meeting, by a roll call vote of 5-0, was a bid for the purchase of certificates of participation Series 2023, from Robert W. Baird & Co., Inc., Milwaukee, Wis.
During a special meeting on March 3, the board approved a resolution authorizing the execution and delivery of a lease purchase agreement, and authorizing the offering for sale of $4.3 million in lease purchase agreement certificates of participation.
It was stated in the resolution, that the board of trustees had determined it would be in the best public interest to acquire improvements for its new Technical Education and Innovation Center, including HVAC, asphalt, information technology equipment, floor coverings, furniture and cabinets and a digital sign through the execution and delivery of a lease purchase agreement. The issuance of certificates of participation will provide financing for the acquisition and equipping of the improvements.
The board of trustees authorized and directed Ranson Financial Group, LLC to receive bids on behalf of the college for the purchase of the certificates.
The bids were reviewed during the meeting on Tuesday, and it was determined that the bid of Robert W. Baird & Co., Inc. was the best bid.
Cloud County Community College broke ground on the $18 million, 33,725-square-foot Technical Education and Innovation Center, being built on College Drive between the college and Walmart, last Wednesday.
The new facility will house the college's renewable energy, nursing and allied health and agriculture and industrial technology programs. It is expected to open for the fall 2024 semester.
In other action taken during the meeting, creating two large pharmacy technician courses rather than six smaller classes was approved by the board of trustees during the meeting.
The changes to the pharmacy technician program will be sent to the Kansas Board of Regents and Higher Learning Commission for approval.
It was reported to the board that the pharmacy technician certificate is a 16-credit-hour certificate that prepares individuals, under the supervision of pharmacists, to prepare medications, provide medications and related assistance to patients and to manage pharmacy clinical and business operations.
Upon consultation with the advisory committee, potential pharmacy technician faculty and the allied health program, it was suggested that the college consolidate the course offerings into two larger courses rather than six small ones. The revision continues to meet the catalog description and learning outcomes.
Zant informed the board that there is an adjunct that has agreed to take on the development of the courses.
“We are hoping to offer it by fall,” Zant said.
