CCCC Board Of Trustees Meeting

Two items pertaining to the placement of a digital sign, that will be located at 2420 Lincoln St., were approved by the Cloud County Community College board of trustees during its regular meeting on Tuesday.
The board of trustees approved a bid of $283,128.40 from Mega LED Technology, Grand Prairie, Texas, for the purchase of the digital sign.
Also approved by the board was a memorandum of understanding with North Central Kansas Medical Center (NCKMC) for shared costs for the sign.
Cloud County Community College (CCCC) president Amber Knoettgen told the trustees that the planning for the digital sign began when construction on the college's new Technical Education and Innovation Center began.
In 2022, CCCC was gifted two parcels of land near Walmart by the Cloud County Community College Foundation for the construction of the technical education center.
One of those parcels of land was to be used for highway signage.
The planned signage will be used to mark and advertise information for CCCC and NCKMC and to provide wayfinding for both entities.
The city of Concordia city commission approved a rezoning ordinance in August 2023 to allow for the sign to be placed on the property.
Construction of the sign on the college-owned land along U.S. Highway 81 was approved by the Kansas Department of Transportation last week.
The sign will stand approximately 45 feet tall and will face the traffic traveling both north and south.
CCCC received three bids for the sign, and approved the low bid.
Knoettgen said that the sign will be paid for using donated funds.
Following approval of the sign, the trustees approved the memorandum of understanding with NCKMC for shared costs of the sign.
NCKMC will pay $141,564.20 over a term of five years and will use the sign to display medical information and share vital hospital news.
Trustee Dave Garnas, who is the NCKMC administrator, abstained from voting on the purchase of the sign and the memorandum of understanding.
Also approved during the meeting was the purchase of instructional technology and equipment needed in classrooms of the new technical education building in the amount of $86,822.88.
The equipment purchase will include eight touchscreens, eight conference camera systems and eight sound bar systems that include the mounting devices to install them into the facility.
CCCC will purchase the equipment using the state of Kansas participating state contract. It allows the college to purchase products from vendors who have already undergone a competitive bid process to take advantage of product pricing that was achieved.
The trustees also approved accepting the 2022-2023 audit report.
Neil Phillips, Jarred, Gilmore and Phillips, P.A., presented the audit report to the board during the meeting in January.
Included in the consent agenda approved by the board was the renewing of the contracts for head wrestling coach Julian Smith and assistant coach Blayne Harris.
The board met in executive session for 15 minutes for the purpose of negotiations with Knoettgen, vice president for administrative services Caesar Wood, vice president for academic affairs Brandon Galm, vice president for student services Brandt Hutchinson, and attorney Justin Ferrell.
