CCCC trustees approve agreement with GLMV

A agreement with GLMV Architecture, Wichita, to provide professional services on the construction of the new Technical Education and Innovation Center was approved by the Cloud County Community College board of trustees during a special meeting on Monday.
The agreement is for $806,500, plus an additional 15 percent contingency in the amount of $120,975.
Cloud County Community College is currently raising funds to construct the new technical building on College Drive between the college and Walmart.
The estimated cost of the facility is $12.5 million.
Information provided to the trustees by vice president for administrative services Caesar Wood stated that the college intends to contract professional services to facilitate the request for qualifications and fees for construction management at-risk (CMR) for the new building.
The college proposes using the CMR process versus design-build due to the complexity and scope of the project.
The CMR process secures a construction manager as part of the agreement to construct the project. This method also entails a commitment to deliver the project within a guaranteed maximum price that is based on construction documents and specifications at the time.
Woods stated that the college intends to sign an agreement with GLMV Architecture, who will facilitate the process on behalf of the college as a professional service. It is a separate contract from the CMR to ensure GLMV's ability to serve the best interest of the college and establish expectations and coordinating the project team.
Also during the meeting, the board approved the hiring of Dr. William McGuire as a science instructor, effective August 15.
McGuire returns to Cloud County. He taught animal science, anatomy and physiology classes for 15 years, from 1999-2013.
During his previous tenure, McGuire was director of the college’s equine program. He coached the livestock and horse judging teams.
McGuire earned his bachelor’s degree in animal sciences and a master’s degree in reproductive physiology from Kansas State University and a doctorate in physiology from Colorado State University. He is currently an instructor of equine science at Cazenovia College.
The board approved appointing trustees Richard Hubert and Mark Matthew to review the nominations for the board of trustees awards for college and student service.
The awards will be presented at the employee appreciation luncheon later this month.
The trustees met in two executive sessions, totaling 50 minutes, for president Amber Knoettgen’s evaluation. No action was taken.
