City Recreation won’t offer youth, adult basketball

The Concordia Wellness and Recreation Department has made the decision not to offer youth or adult basketball programs for 2020-2021.
Wellness and recreation director Chris Atkins issued a statement on Tuesday outlining the reasons for not offering the programs.
In 2020, recreation departments across the state of Kansas and the entire country are continuing to face difficult obstacles in providing access to the activities we have provided for years prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. These challenges are no different for the Concordia Wellness and Recreation Department.
Because of these difficulties, we regret to inform you that we will not be able to offer our 2020-2021 Youth or Adult Basketball programs this year.
There have been many variables discussed and considered in this decision, but ultimately we were not going to be able to provide the program in a version that would meet our quality of expectations. We understand this decision will be a great disappointment to many of our citizens and that we are equally frustrated.
In the statement Atkins said that Concordia Wellness and Recreation takes great pride in providing high quality and safe programming and activities to our citizens and it is incredibly frustrating when we are unable to do so.
It is the city's intention to offer these programs again next year for the 2021-2022 seasons, when environmental factors will hopefully be more ideal.
The Wellness  and Recreation Department will continue to encourage all of our citizens to remain as active as possible through these challenging times.
