City to test, flush fire hydrants

The city of Concordia Water Department will be testing and flushing hydrants next Monday through Friday.
The annual program serves two purposes: to flush and conduct a maintenance check on all fire hydrants in the community and to force an excessive flow of water through the mains which enables the Water Department to get rid of mineral deposits in the mains.
Minerals are naturally present in drinking water. Low water usage in the winter months contributes to the deposit buildup.
Concordia residents may experience water discoloration throughout the week which is not a public health problem, but may be an inconvenience.
Residents are encouraged to inspect the color of the tap water before doing laundry. If discoloration is present do not use the washing machine. The water should clear up in a day or so.
Flushing and testing will begin at 6 a.m. on Monday and 7 a.m. the rest of the week.
The city apologizes for any inconvenience the flushing may cause and thanks the residents for their cooperation.
Anyone with questions can call City Hall at 785-243-2670.
The flushing schedule is as follows:
Monday – Strain Street through Fifth Street.
Tuesday – Sixth Street through Seventh Street.
Wednesday – Eighth Street through 10th Street.
Thursday - 11th Street through 16th Street east of Lincoln Street and 11th Street through 13th Street west of Lincoln Street.
Friday - 16th Street through the airport east of Lincoln Street and 14th Street through the south city limits west of Lincoln Street.
