Cleveland tabbed to fill seat on county board

Mike Cleveland was selected to fill a vacant seat on the Cloud County board of commissioners, during a replacement convention conducted by the Cloud County Republican Party Tuesday night at the CloudCorp office.
Cleveland, of Concordia, was tabbed to fill the First District seat on the county board that is being vacated by Mark Matthew, who submitted his resignation earlier this month.
Matthew is moving out of the county and resigned from the county board and the Cloud County Community College board of trustees.
The Republican Party scheduled the replacement convention to fill the First District seat.
Anyone living in the First District had an opportunity to submit a letter of interest in serving on the commission.
There were four letters of interest received.
During the replacement convention, which included the Republican precinct committeemen and committeewomen from each of the 12 precincts in the First District, someone had to nominate the candidates to fill the seat.
Cleveland was nominated by Matthew and Marvin Shunn nominated Gregory Dockins, Clyde.
Both Cleveland and Dockins had an opportunity to speak during the convention.
Votes were then cast by 17 precinct committeemen and committeewomen who were in attendance or by proxy.
Cleveland received 10 votes and Dockins received seven.
A certificate of the appointment of Cleveland will be sent to Governor Laura Kelly.
Kelly then has seven days after receiving the certificate of appointment to officially appoint Cleveland to the commission.
Cleveland, who is a farmer with Higher Grounds Farms, LLC, has also filed for the Position 3, Sub-District 3 seat on the Concordia Unified School District 333 board of education.
