County Board handles routine business

The Cloud County board of commissioners handled routine business items during its regular meeting on Monday.
Andy Asch, Highway Department administrator and the board reviewed the Selection Committee report during the meeting and discussed fixing a few spots on Union Road as well as sealing and striping.
Striping is expected to be completed by the middle of October at a rate of $300-$400 per mile for yellow and $580-$600 for white.
Sheriff Brian Marks met with the board and presented classification changes.
The board approved the hiring of Kaizer J. Kussman as a part-time correction officer, effective September 24, at a rate of $12 per hour to fill an open position.
Brandi Bray, Health Department administrator, met with the board and presented a classification change.
The hiring of Katie Brooks as Family Planning Director/Public Health Nurse, effective October 1 at a rate of $17.56 to fill an open position, was approved by the board.
The board met in executive session for 15 minutes with CloudCorp executive director Ashley Hutchinson to discuss confidential business data.
County cell phone service was discussed by the board. No change from the current service was made.
Gieletta Moelleker, Pawnee Mental Health, presented a proclamation asking the board to declare September as Recovery Month.
The board voted to proclaim September as Recovery Month in Cloud County. It calls upon citizens, government agencies, public and private institutions, businesses and schools to recognize the importance of recovery, and to commit our community to increasing awareness and understanding of substance use and mental disorders and the need for appropriate and accessible services for all people.
Toby Nosker, KNCK Radio, reported to the board that 291 people had voted on the question of the week on the NCKToday.com website regarding security at the Courthouse. Just over 49 percent voted yes on the question.
The board approved Resolution No. 2018-30 abatement of real property taxes and special assessment taxes on property sold at judicial tax foreclosure sale totaling $31,569.12.
Payroll deductions and benefits totaling $190,819.43 were approved by the board.
The board approved the following payroll expenses totaling $149,675.81:
General fund, $80,915.94; Appraisal, $4,932.91; noxious weed, $511.54; Solid Waste, $4,349.20; Road & Bridge, $44,018.86; County Health, $13,602.79; election, $1,344.57.
The board met in executive session for 10 minutes to discuss confidential business matters.
