County commission approves hiring of disease investigator

Cloud County Health Department administrator Brandi Bray met with the Cloud County board of commissioners during its regular meeting on Monday, and presented two new hires.
The board approved the hiring of Leann Cook as the public health nurse/full-time disease investigator, effective Monday, at an introductory rate of $19.23 for 90 days.
A grant from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment will fund the Cook hiring.
Cook will be responsible for investigating possible contacts with communicable diseases, including COVID-19, and will do contact tracing and notifications.
Bray reported to the board that the Health Department would be retesting approximately 60 employees for COVID-19 at a local facility.
The board approved the hiring of Robyn Brooks as a receptionist at the Health Department, at an introductory wage of $12 per hour for 90 days effective August 26.
James Quillen, Emergency Preparedness/Safety director, met with the board during the meeting and reported that there was enough damage from the storms on July 26 for a FEMA reimbursement and that individual assistance is being evaluated.
Glasco residents should contact the County Clerk immediately if they had damage and hadn't been contacted.
Quillen also reported that the Office of Recovery has hired a staff of consultants to review the Corona Relief Funding applications and approval will be prior to September 15.
Mike Hake, Solid Waste director, reported to the board that two loads of cardboard, weighing 44,521 pounds and 42,570 pounds, were shipped out last week.
Henry Eilert, Maintenance manager, presented the approved quote from Stupka Construction for signature and reported he is getting quotes for moving phone lines to be powered by the backup generator.
Highway Department administrator Andy Asch reported to the board that Coughlin would be paying for chips to seal the Ames/Miltonvale Road repairs and presented utility permits and a wage change.
The board approved a utility permit for ONEOK North Systems, LLC for maintenance on existing lines and a utility permit from Northern Natural Gas Company to do maintenance on existing lines.
A wage change for Richard Stromberg, from $16.52 to $17.54, effective August 30, due to introductory wage period ending, was approved by the board.
The board approved the 2020 election results report.
The following payroll expenses, totaling $171,797.40, were approved by the board:
General Fund, $80,982.67; Road & Bridge, $47,395.51; Appraisal, $5,216.78; County Health, $28,962.16; Noxious Weed, $1,726.46; Election, $1,912.05; Solid Waste, $5,601.77; payroll deductions and benefits, $5,257.52.
