EDP Renewables donates to Resource Center

EDP Renewables North America, owner and operator of Meridian Way Wind Farm, is providing Cloud County Resource Center with $8,000 in funding to help residents in communities near the wind farm cope with the impacts of COVID-19.
The donation to Cloud County Resource Center is part of a broader initiative in which EDP Renewables NA has committed a total of $300,000 across more than 50 communities where the company has wind farms and solar parks.
Their long-term presence and relationships in small, rural communities offers a unique opportunity to target the best, most-effective and in-need organizations in those communities where the company operates projects.
Their focus on food banks is because of increased demand and low supply from nonprofits serving project areas, and the Meridian Way Wind Fram is committed to providing support.
To choose the organizations that receive support, EDP Renewables NA’s employees reached out to local residents to identify the organizations that are stepping up and providing vital economic relief in response to the additional strain caused by COVID-19.
With workers getting laid off, students losing access to free lunch programs, and elderly populations being quarantined and unable to purchase groceries, the need for food and economic security is felt in all communities.
The Cloud County Resource Center has seen an increase in numbers of customers in need during the COVID-19 pandemic, and expects the need to increase as businesses remain closed and food supplies run short.
"We are incredibly grateful for this very generous donation," said Tonya Merrill, Executive Director of the Cloud County Resource Center and Food Banks.
Merrill adds that she can only do her job through the support of the community, so the funds from Meridian Way Wind Farm will make the difference in helping to protect people.
The Cloud County Food Bank has partnered with the Concordia Homestore to be a drop-off site for food donations. Items can be left there Monday thru Friday from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm and on Saturday from 8 am to 5 pm.
