Eshbaugh named new CHS principal

Included in the certified staff changes approved by the Unified School District 333 board of education during its regular meeting on Monday night was the transfer of Concordia High School assistant principal and athletic director Chad Eshbaugh to Concordia Junior-Senior High School principal.
Eshbaugh, who is currently in his second year as assistant principal and athletic director, will take over as principal in the 2023-2024 school year. He replaces Kale Katt, who has accepted a position as administrator for career and technical education and postsecondary planning for Geary County Unified School District 475.
The other hires for the 2023-2024 school year approved by the board include Kelly Kender as the Concordia Junior-Senior High School vocal music instructor, who was also appointed as theater sponsor, and Megan Pearson as a sixth-grade teacher at the Concordia Middle School, replacing Katie Jackson.
The transfer of Jackson from sixth-grade teacher to Concordia Middle School counselor was approved.
Bethany Richard is transferring from her position as a fourth-grade teacher at the Concordia Elementary School, to a fifth-grade teacher at the middle school, replacing Christina Lesslie, who resigned.
The board approved the transfer of Erin Herman from preschool teacher to kindergarten teacher at the elementary school, covering a fifth section of kindergarten that was added.
Included in the classified staff changes approved, were the resignation of David Gieber as head junior high school football coach and the hiring of Daniel Hyman as assistant high school football coach.
In other action taken during the meeting, the board approved the early graduation requests for Logan Brown and Justus Trost. They will graduate in December 2023.
A policy for the use of LifeVac in the school district was approved by the board.
LifeVac is a single patient, airway clearance device developed for resuscitating a victim with an airway obstruction, after standard choking protocol has been followed without success.
Before use of the LifeVac, staff must be trained by a school nurse.
Learning Cooperative of North Central Kansas policy and procedures updates were also approved by the board.
Eshbaugh presented a report to the board on junior high school girls' wrestling.
The North Central Kansas League plans to have a separate season for junior high school girls' wrestling  following semester break.
Eshbaugh surveyed the sixth and seventh-grade girls in the district and 12 said that they would go out, 17 said that they would consider going out and 37 said they were not interested.
The costs involved with the program would be a coach, travel and equipment. The practices for the team would be in the mornings before school.
Concordia High School counselor Bailey Echer presented a report to the board on the updated Kansas State Department of Education graduation requirements. They will go into effect in 2028.
The board met in executive session for 15 minutes with superintendent of schools Quentin Breese for the purpose of discussing non-elected personnel.
