Matthew, Macfarlane resign from board positions

Mark Mathew has submitted his resignation from the Cloud County board of commissioners and the Cloud County Community College board of trustees.
Matthew's wife, Patricia Macfarlane, has also submitted her resignation from the Cloud County Community College board of trustees.
Matthew said that he and his wife are moving for family and health reasons.
“We have enjoyed our service to the community,” Matthew said.
Matthew was elected to the college board of trustees as a write-in candidate in 2021, receiving 331 of the 441 write-in votes cast.
After defeating incumbent Bill Czapanskiy in the Republican primary for the First District seat on the county board of commissioners in August 2022, Matthew ran unopposed in the November general election, and was elected.
Matthew was sworn in the board of commissioners on January 9. His resignation from the board is effective May 30.
The Republican Party in Cloud County will appoint someone to fill the First District seat being vacated by Matthew and will submit a recommendation to Governor Laura Kelly.
Matthew's replacement must live in the First District.
Macfarlane was first elected to the college board of trustees in 2017. She was re-elected to a second term in 2021.
The resignations of Matthew and Macfarlane from the college board are effective June 2.
The college board of trustees positions will be filled by appointment no sooner than the 15 days following the publication of the notice on Monday.
Those appointed to the board will serve out the remainder of the unexpired terms.
The applicants for the college board positions must reside in the member district.
