Republic County man charged with rape of child

Jose Pedro Toledo Leite, former vice president for academic affairs & student success at Cloud County Community College, has been charged with one count of alleged felony rape of a child under the age of 14 and one count of aggravated indecent liberties with a child.
According to a report by The Belleville Telescope, both alleged incidents occurred on June 20, 2020.
Leiti, a Republic County resident, was arrested by the Republic County Sheriff's Office. He was released on June 11 on a $250,000 surety bond.
The case was filed in Republic County District Court this week by Adam Y. Zentner, assistant attorney general with the Kansas Attorney General's office.
It is stated in the complaint that on or about June 20, Leite did unlawfully and feloniously engage in sexual intercourse with a child under 14 years of age and also did unlawfully and feloniously engage in lewd fondling of a child under 14 years of age.
Potential penalties for each count is life in prison without the possibility of parole for 25 years and a $500,000 maximum fine.
The Belleville Telescope reported that the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and other agencies were involved in the investigation of the case.
Leite resigned as vice president for academic affairs & student success in July of 2020.
