Student of the Month — Madelaine Blochlinger

Madelaine Blochlinger has a bubbly personality and almost always smiles before she speaks. Her positive outlook on life and strong work ethic is going to benefit hundreds, if not thousands of her nursing patients in the future.
Blochlinger, a senior at Concordia High School (CHS), participates in golf, journalism, and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). She plans on attending Cloud County Community College and earning a nursing degree.
"I've always had an interest in the medical field," Blochlinger said. "I got my CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) when I was sophomore, and decided to pursue nursing."
One of Blochlinger's several jobs is working as a CNA at the Nazareth Motherhouse. "I help take care of the sisters, and really like it."
Though a full-time student, Blochlinger puts in 16-20 hours a week at the Motherhouse, and also works shifts at Gambino's Pizza. "I like to work. I like to keep busy."
Blochlinger's favorite pizza is hamburger, and is quick to point out that making pizza is not as easy as it sounds. "It's really all about the sauce. You have to add just the right amount."
So the key to making a great pizza is the sauce? "Well, for me it's all about the cheese," she said with a laugh. "Lots of cheese!"
Blochlinger is eager for the challenges of life after high school. "I'm really looking forward to being independent, and not relying on my parents so much. I'm going to miss high school, seeing my friends and teachers every day. But I'm ready to do new things."
Blochlinger already has an eye toward the future, and what life will be like for her. "I hope to be living in Concordia and working as a nurse, maybe at the hospital. I'd like to be married and have a family - but two kids, that's it!"
For her nursing career, Blochlinger hasn't chosen a specific field. "I like pediatrics, but I also like the ER. Honestly, I would be comfortable in any position. I just want to help take care of people."
