Temperatures expected to top out of 100 for several days

Following a few days of below or near average temperatures, the heat returns to north central Kansas.
The National Weather Service office is forecasting high temperatures topping out above 100 degrees for at least six consecutive days, beginning on Saturday.
The high temperature for Concordia on Saturday is forecast to reach a record high of 108. The current record is 107 set in 1936. The average high is 88.
According to Sarah Teefey with the National Weather Service Office, a ridge of hot, dry air is going to settle over the central United States for the next several days.
The National Weather Service Office has issued an excessive heat watch for the entire state of Kansas beginning at noon on Saturday and extending through Wednesday evening.
Heat index values around 110 degrees will be possible.
Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.
Teefey said that the National Weather Service Office will look at upgrading the heat watch to a heat warning.
There is a possibility that the ridge of hot air could break down some and provide some relief toward the end of next week.
