Volunteers to serve Thanksgiving dinner

A full turkey dinner will be on the menu at the Concordia Community Thanksgiving Dinner scheduled for Thanksgiving Day at the National Guard Armory.
The meal will be served from noon until 1 p.m.
Meals will be delivered to those who can't make it to the Armory from 11 a.m. until noon.
Lisa Valcoure said the meal will include turkey, potatoes, dressing, sweet potatoes, corn, a roll and desert.
“It is a big meal, and without the community it wouldn't happen,” Valcoure said.
Last year approximately 500 meals were served and approximately 200 were delivered.
Valcoure said they are preparing for 600 this year.
Local individuals, businesses and churches have donated food and money for the meal.
The food is prepared by volunteers throughout the community. About 80 volunteers have helped cook, set up the Armory, deliver meals and cleanup.
“We need a lot of volunteers,” Valcoure said.
Those wishing to volunteer to help out this year, or have a golf cart or ATV donate for transporting meal goers from the parking lot to the Armory, can call or text Valcoure at 785-914-9693 or Crystal Southard at 785-614-0739.
The work will start about 8 a.m. on Thanksgiving and finish up around 2-3 p.m.
“It is a lot of fun. It is a lot of work, but we get it all done,” Valcoure said.
Any food left over is distributed to people in the community who are in need.
