CEP, CCCC to host renewable energy events

The Climate and Energy Project (CEP) is joining with the Cloud County Community College Renewable Energy Department to host two events focused on renewable energy and environmental sustainability.
CEP, on November 14, will present a workshop and film screening to highlight how renewable energy development in Kansas, specifically in solar energy, provides jobs, improves the economy and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
The events will be at the Concordia High School Vocational Tech Building.
“Kansans need to start talking about solar and how it fits into our energy future,” Dorothy Barnett, CEP executive director, said, “Kansas has great potential for renewable energy. It's second in the nation for wind power and in the top five for solar. While wind generation has been successful in Kansas, the solar industry is just scratching the surface of its potential.”

Workshop and luncheon: CEP will present “Building a Brighter Solar Economy in Kansas” workshop and a complimentary luncheon from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Businesses, elected officials, community leaders and solar advocates are invited to attend the workshop, which will cover distributed generation, how solar works, and what can help build a more robust solar economy in Kansas.”
Film Screening and evening events: Beginning at 4 p.m., anyone interested in learning about solar power in Kansas is invited to attend the evening film screening and panel discussion. Events will include tour of CCCC's new solar array, Solar 101; supper and networking (RSVP required for dinner); film screening of “Happening: A Clean Energy Revolution”; and a panel discussion that will include legislators, solar advocates, solar energy students and others.
Both events and all activities are free to attend.
