CCCC falls in five sets to Greyhounds

In a matchup of teams ranked in the top 10, the 10th-ranked Cloud County Community College volleyball team fell in five sets to fifth-ranked Fort Scott Community College Wednesday night in Bryant Gymnasium.
Cloud County, now 21-6 overall and 4-4 in the Jayhawk Conference East Division, rallied from an early deficit to go up 20-19 in the opening set.
Fort Scott, 27-4 overall and 8-1 in conference play, used a 6-3 run down the stretch to pull out a 25-23 win.
Cloud County jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the second set.
After falling behind 6-5, the Thunderbirds dominated it picking up a 25-15 win to even the match at a set apiece.
The Greyhounds answered with a 25-19 win in the third set and led 2-1.
Cloud County made it 2-2 by winning the fourth set, 25-19.
The fifth and deciding set was close throughout, and was tied at 12-12.
Fort Scott led 14-13, and was within a point of the win.
Cloud County would tie it up at 14-14.
The Greyhounds then scored two consecutive points to capture the 16-14 victory.
Sophomore Dayana Chara led Cloud County with 21 kills.
Mary Broxterman added 14 kills and four blocks.
Freshman setter Riley Bontrager finished with 51 assists.
