Three T-Birds recognized by KJCCC

Following a season that saw the Cloud County Community College volleyball team go 23-9 overall, the Thunderbirds have landed three on the All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference team in Dayana Chara, Emelys Martinez, and Geraldyn Palacios.
Additionally, each of the three players, along with Mary Broxterman and Madi Spencer, all earned NJCAA Plains District B All-District honors.
Chara finished a stellar playing career at CCCC by finishing her sophomore campaign with 469 kills, the third-most by any KJCCC Player this year regardless of division, and second-most in a single season at Cloud County according to available records. The Cartagena, Columbia, native would also add 59 blocks and 13 service aces to garner both first-team All-KJCCC and first-team All-Plains District B honors.
Chara would finish with 803 kills during her two seasons on the court for the T-Birds, setting a new career-record for kills at CCCC.
Martinez would snag both second-team All-KJCCC and second-team All-District B recognition after appearing in 23 matches for the T-Birds before having her season end early due to injury as the freshman would record 252 kills and 219 digs in 76 sets played.
A versatile outside hitter for the T-Birds, Martinez would also record 31 total blocks and 24 service aces and would finish the season with a .332 attack percentage.
Palacios joins the duo on the All-KJCCC list by receiving honorable-mention All-KJCCC honors and second-team All-District B recognition after appearing in all 32 matches for Cloud County and recording 272 kills on the season which was the second most on the team.
Palacios also had 126 digs and a team-high 90 blocks as the block total would be the third most in the modern era (2008-present) for a single-season at Cloud County.
Broxterman earned second-team All-District B honors after having a big impact for the T-Birds during the second half of the season and finishing the year with 215 kills and 81 blocks. The Hoyt native would also record 21 service aces and 129 digs while recording a career-best 15 kills against Fort Scott.
Spencer finishes her career with the T-Birds by earning second-team All-District B recognition, serving as a key piece of the T-Bird back line as a defensive specialist throughout the year. Finishing the season with a team-best 415 digs and adding 42 set assists, the 415 digs would rank 15th among all KJCCC players this year regardless of division.
