DENNIS LYNN GARST

      Dennis Lynn Garst, the son of Darrell L. Garst and Carrol (Modlin) Garst, was born January 13, 1955, in Concordia, Kan., and passed away on July 21, 2019, at his home at the age of 64 years, 6 months, and 8 days.
He grew up in the Scandia, Kan., area, graduating from Scandia High School.
He then attended and graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University, Salina, Kan., with a degree in criminal justice. Dennis enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corps in 1975.
Dennis was involved in law enforcement for 10 years in Glasco and later Salina, Kan. He then worked for Philips Lighting in Salina for over 30 years, retiring as lead mechanic. For the last two years, he worked for the Pike Valley School System as a bus driver.
On July 6, 1974, he was united in marriage to Viola Kenyon and to this union was born Kade Dennis Garst and Kyle Dawn Garst.
Dennis was a member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion in Salina. He was a member of the Scandia Methodist Church and a member of the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Darrell and Carrol Garst and one brother-in-law, Gordon Kenyon.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Viola Garst of rural Scandia, Kan.; son, Kade D. (Nicole) Garst of Topeka, Kan.; daughter, Kyle Dawn Garst of Yellowstone National Park, Wyo.; two grandchildren, Kaison David Garst and Kaia Danielle Garst; two brothers, Kenneth Garst of Jewell, Kan. and Kevin Garst of Belleville, Kan.; two sisters, Carla Sanpaka of Scandia, Kan. and Jennifer (Tony) Maiorana of Manhattan, Kan.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Melvin and OraLee Jeardoe of Concordia; sister-in-law, JoAnne Kenyon of Scandia, Kan.; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cremation was chosen and Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2019, at the United Methodist Church, Scandia, Kan., with Pastor Sandra Jellison-Knock, officiating.
Inurnment will be at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, rural Norway, Kan.
There will be a luncheon at the church at 12:00 noon on Saturday and the family will greet friends from 12:00 noon until service time. A reception will follow the inurnment at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Norway, Kan. No visitation is planned at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Pleasant Ridge Cemetery-Gazebo Project or the United Methodist Church, Scandia, Kan.
