Dorothy Mae DeLude Schwab Morris, age 89, Clyde, Kansas, resident, passed away September 16, 2023, at the North Central Medical Center, Concordia, Kansas, with her daughters, Beverly, Carol “Pixie,” and son-in-law Dorsey, by her side. She was born August 3, 1934, in rural Aurora to Adamore and Zelia (Roy) DeLude.
She was a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Clyde, Kansas, and the American Legion Auxiliary for over 40 years in Clyde, Kansas.
Dorothy may have only lived within a thirty mile radius of where she was born, but she loved to travel all over the states and Canada, and made sure she was at every game or event her children participated in. Dorothy was raised on the 80-acre family farm near the Twin Mounds in Aurora, Kansas; she soon became her daddy’s right hand when her brothers left to serve in the military.
After graduating high school, Dorothy married Daryl Schwab in June of 1952. They had three children: Beverly Ann, Daryl Dean, and Carol Lynne Schwab. Dorothy loved being outside and did a lot of work on the farm and also did custom baling for other area farmers. Once she moved to Clifton she started working at the Clifton newspaper. Upon moving to Clyde, she worked at the Clyde Republican newspaper for several years. She worked briefly at Sandy’s Café before going on to Wardcraft Homes and the hospital, from which she retired. Dorothy always had vegetable and flower gardens. She could often be seen walking or riding her bicycle through the streets of Clyde with her straw hat. She also enjoyed cooking, canning, making cookies, and quilting. She received great joy from dancing and country music. She was known for being light on her feet and “now she has wings.” She has now joined her loved ones and will forever be in our hearts.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Beverly Ann Schwab of Graford, Texas, and Carol Lynne Schwab-Blair and Dorsey Blair of Katy, Texas, and her sister, Edna Marie Schwab of Park Villa Clyde, Kansas. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Gregory (Misti) Cedillo of Brock, Texas, Naomi (Michael) Dudek of Red Oak, Texas, Veronica (John) Webster of Midland, Texas, Kevin Cedillo of Graford, Texas, Nathan (Whitney) Schwab of Missoula, Mont., Terri (Mitch) McGuire of Timmath, Colo., Matthew Thomas of Albuquerque, N.M., Andrew (Emily) Thomas of Hopkins, N.M., Crystal (Brian) Crist of Bentonville, Ark. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Gavin Cedillo, Mylee Cedillo, Chase Ferrell, Felicia (Roberto) Lozano, Sydney Dudek, J. R. Webster, James Webster, Lander Schwab, Mya McGuire, Silas McGuire, Abigale Thomas, Deven Thomas, and Liam Crist, Rorie Crist. Dorothy is also survived by one great-great-grandchild, Elaina Lozano.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Dean DeLude, Alden DeLude; sister, Marjorie Moore, and her beloved son, Daryl Dean “Buddy” Schwab.
