JIM R. KALIVODA

Jim R. Kalivoda, the son of Bart and Minnie (Johnson) Kalivoda was born October 20, 1930 on the family farm in rural Cuba, KS and passed away on January 21, 2019 at the Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center, KS at the age of 88 years, 3 months, and one day.
Jim attended the Thomas Grade School, later graduating from Agenda High School. He served with the U. S. Army from June 1951 until May of 1953, he was stationed in Japan. Following his honorable discharge, he worked for the local Co-op and later worked at Hutchinson Mayrath Mfg. in Clay Center, KS for 19 years until his retirement in 1994.
On May 27, 1951, he was united in marriage to Ramona Benyshek and to this union was two children were born,  Audrey and Cindy. The couple resided in the Brantford Community all of their married lives. Recently, Jim resided at Country Place Senior Living, Clay Center, KS.
Jim was a member of the VFW, the American Legion-Cuba, KS where he received a 50 year pin, and the Brantford Covenant Church since 1956. Jim was on the Brantford Cemetery and Community Center Boards for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, making furniture, scroll saw work and was involved in craft shows in the mid 90’s. He was an avid photographer and had his own dark room. Jim also liked to read, fish and travel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bart and Minnie Kalivoda; his wife, Ramona; one brother, Melvin; and his daughter, Audrey Kalivoda.
Jim is survived by one daughter, Cindy (Joe) Werth of Pekin, IL; granddaughter, Jen (Ty) Harvey of Pekin, IL; grandson, Chris Werth of Denver, CO; great-granddaughter Anna Harvey and great-grandson Maxwell James Harvey; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the Brantford Covenant Church, Brantford, KS.
Interment will be at the Brantford Covenant Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites conducted by American Legion Post # 345-Cuba, KS.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2019 at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS with the family greeting friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Jim Kalivoda Memorial.
