Marilyn Slater

Marilyn Slater, 85, of Salina, Kansas, died Friday, December 8, 2023. She was born July 18, 1938, in Clyde, Kansas, the daughter of Theodore and Marcelline (Breault) Hamel. Marilyn was a homemaker, realtor, and an executive secretary. Family was very important to her and she to them. She enjoyed fishing and camping, motorhome trips and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. She was a prolific crocheter.
She is preceded in death by a son, Lyle Lee Slater; her parents; her husband, Dean; a grandson, Ethan Slater; and a sister, Arlene Egolf. Survivors include five children, Greg and Laurie Slater of Salina, Kan., Sherry and Todd Krahl of Salina, Kan., Bill Slater and John Gregory of Wichita, Kan., Julie and Cliff Snellings of Augusta, Kan., and Doug Slater of Plattsburg, Mo.; two brothers, Marve and Toni Hamel of Salina, Kan., and Mick and Denise Hamel of Miltonvale, Kan.; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
A Rosary Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 15, 2023, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Aurora, Kansas, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Church. Inurnment will be in the St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Aurora, Kansas. There is no visitation. Memorials are to the Alzheimer’s Association or Gentiva Hospice. Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth St., Salina, Kansas, is handling the arrangements.
